The Palm IIIc will also have 8 mb of RAM, a rechargeable battery, be 1 cm bigger than the Palm IIIx, and the color black. 2/7/2000 -UK post from yahoo re IIIc. (Submitted by David E, San Antonio) Palm Computing will release a new device with a colour screen at this month's Cebit trade fair in Hanover, Germany The Palm IIIc will support colour by taking advantage of the capabilities in the newest version of Palm's operating system, Palm OS 3.5. Priced at £349, the Palm IIIc will be slightly larger than the other models in the Palm III range. It will ship with 8MB of RAM and will use a rechargeable battery, said sources familiar with the launch. At Cebit, the company will also release the Palm Vx and
the Palm IIIx in Europe. Both models, which are more upgradeable than standard
Until recently Palm officials resisted the move to colour,
despite competition from Windows CE devices. Monochrome screens have not
hurt
1/27/2000 Thomas S. submitted the following The Palm IIIc occupies a form factor similar to that of the existing Palm III organisers but will feature a colour, backlit screen and the latest Palm OS release, version 3.5. ... The devices will be priced at $449 and $249 respectively.[...] The company recently invited developer's to submit applications which utilised the colour technology for preview at a special event to be held in early February 2000 and possible inclusion in a promotional advertising campaign." 1/21/2000 CNET Reports 'Ostensibly an opportunity for third-party
software and hardware developers to play around with the new color-enabled
operating system, the letter hints that a Palm licensee will show a device
with a color display for the first time. "In the spring of 2000, one of
the hardware manufacturers that makes products based on the Palm OS will
release a device with a color display!" the letter states. "This licensee
is interested in showing some of the stable, useful, quality, color applications
that exist at the time of the product launch." But rather than a new device
from a licensee like Handspring, TRG, or even Sony, as some developers
are guessing, sources say the Palm event will actually be the debut of
the Palm IIIc, a color device from the soon-to-be-independent 3Com subsidiary
itself. '
There are currently rumors that 3com will release a color version of the Palm III early this year ( the Palm IIIc). At least two developments support this guess. 1) last fall Palm lay out the specifications of the new Palm OS which will be enabled for color. 2) A new version of the processor has been released which supports color.
