 - Great Reference Tool for Legal Writing.BURTON'S LEGAL THESAURUS has it's beginning back in 1974 to fill a void for legal professionals. From the Foreword- "It is through the use of such a tool as the Legal Thesaurus that one may find the precise term to fit the nuances of a particular situation."- William O. Douglas, Justice, U.S.Supreme Court from 1939-1975. In addition to the features that one would expect in a legal thesaurus, I found Foreign Phrases and Translations keyed to concepts to be both helpful and interesting. The Index is a convenience. This thesaurus is a great reference tool for legal writing. I highly recommend it. Rating:  - 5 STARS: FANTASTIC BOOK - It's the Bomb!Hey, I gave this 5 stars, but one of them is missing.......... whatsup? Well, this is one 5-star Legal Reference; Will'm Burton, you did good! I just love thesaurus anyway, and this Legal Thesaurus is GREAT! That's all I got to say. It has every term I've ever looked up; and if it didn't, it would reference you to another term like it. It is soft paperback - which I love for a reference book. I only wish it wasn't so huge cause you really have to be sitting at a desk to spend any time reading in it. It's a little awkward if you're lying in bed or in a chair with it in your lap, cause it's pretty heavy too. Well most gold is! And by that I mean this book is GOLD! Burton's Legal Thesaurus puts all the other Law Reference books to shame, hands down! At least in my opinion, it beats: Barron's Law Dicitionary (too incomplete) and 1001 Legal Words You Need to Know (a joke!). I bought all these books at the same time, and Burton's is the only one I use - the other 2 are a waste of time 95% of the time. For comparison purposes: To use one of the other 2 books would be like walking 5 miles, to a spring in the desert, when you already know there's no water in it......... I also purchased it at a fantastically low price, and it stated "used, good condition" - and quite frankly it was in new condition, tight binding, no marks, clean pages, no bents. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. This is a book I'll never get rid of. Now I know that Burton's is a name I can trust in Legal References!! Rating: - Useful bookThe book is very useful. However, the Latin phrases are probably no longer necessary in the U.S. legal practice. I've noticed one error that is carried over from one edition to the next: in Index under the entry "in error" look for word "fallacioadmit." I speculate that a portion of text disappeared and fallacious was merged with admit. The words that follow admit do not appear to belong in the "in error" article. Rating: - Important book. The "Roget's" of the legal profession.This book, now in its fourth edition, is an essential companion to Black's Law Dictionary, Garner's Legal Usage book, and other essential legal reference books. Great for law students, lawyers, judges, paralegals/legal assistants, and just about anyone else dealing with legal language. This book gives alternatives to stilted, overused, and misused, language. Worth the price (especially if one compare it on a site like Nextag, Shopzilla, and others). Rating: - Very Helpful ProductThis is the legal thesaurus that all my law professors suggested. So far it has been very helpful in research and writing. |
