![]() - The book that makes one street smart in the ICUI read this book prior to starting my sub-I in the MICU. This is a one-of-a-kind book that combines basic physiology behind clinical decision making with the day-to-day practices at the bedside. The chapters are concise and to the point, making the book an easy read for all of us with little time (and patience). I kept it in the workroom and referred to it every day, and I know that I will be using it soon for my ICU months as a resident. Read it, use it, and benefit. I wish there is an equivalent book for the floor. Rating: - Excellent preparation for the ICUI am a soon to be Medicine intern at Stanford, and decided to read this book cover to cover before starting my residency. It is unbelievably helpful in explaining concepts which I have "danced around" understanding but never truly understood. It really goes into even the details of procedures that one might be embarrassed to ask about to an attending. Really easy to read, I would say the only prereqs to understanding the material within are a medicine and surgery clerkship. Rating: - Excellent resource for critical careI would highly recommend this for almost any medical professional who will have contact with critically ill patients. Came in very handy during my ICU rotations in medical school, and I will certainly refer to it throughout surgery residency and possibly fellowship. One of the gold standard texts in critical care, you can't go wrong on rounds when you say you read it in The ICU Book! Rating: - Excellent bookA good read. Just enough physiology to help you understand but not get you overwhelmed. An excellent review for seasoned attendings and residents alike Rating: - All the information you may need, just hard to work throughThis book has excellent basic principles/formulas outlined for the critical care world. However, it is not well-written, it is a very difficult read and the references at the end of the chapters are not the most helpful ones. If you can get through this book though, you should be able to know a good bit of intensive care medicine (both on the medical and surgical side). There are better reads for critical care out there though! |
