![]() - Very unhelpful - too basic, unfocusedI don't write many reviews, but this book was so bad I had to write something. If you are considering buying this book, stop right now and save yourself the time and money. I used this book for step 3, and then after the 1st part of the test, I thumbed through it again to see if anything matched up. It did not. IMHO, if the USMLE step 3 was an open book test, the first aid book would still be almost useless! It is way too basic, and does not focus on key step 3 test items, is poorly organized and written, and leaves you with a time-wasting study plan. I also used usmleworld for questions, and found that while definitely better written, it still was of very little help on the actual test. I got the same feedback from other test takers as well who thought these two resources were not worth using. I'm not knocking all the series. First Aid for step 1 is great, but then the rest of the series deteriorates. I think this is because of a lack of strategy on the author's part, or maybe a change in how the exam is now written. The book does not mesh with what the writers are trying to emphasize on the test. You should not have to take much time to study for this test if you have a good source and focus on the right issues. Most people I know don't spend more then a few days to a couple weeks for this test, but you can spend 2 weeks with first aid or usmleworld, and still not improve your score much. For now, I'm not sure what is a worthwhile source. No one I know has vouched much for crush step 3 either. Hopefully someone will write a review book that is a little more thought out. However, I do recommend usmleworld for the CCS portion of the exam. Rating: - Succint and SufficientBroad enough to cover the major topics, and still light enough on content not to bog you down. Rating: - worst in the seriesI had high hopes for First Aid for Step 3, after using the series in the other step exams. I was highly disappointed as this book leaves out so much important information, and actually some of the information it does include is blatantly wrong (caused me to give wrong answers on the QBanks). I don't trust it! Rating: - Good seriesI have been following firstaid series since step1 really good books very high yelid stuff good for last week review my suggestion is write down important points when u do questions in the first aid book so that u can go through in the last week good luck guys Rating: - Seemed to helpMy wife is a plastics intern who purchased this book. She used this to study and felt good about the exam after taking it so I would recommend it. |
