![]() - Gorgeous book - makes you believe in freedom.. Loved it!I absolutely loved this book. What a gorgeous fun book. It was very real and I would have been so disappointed if she didn't get togeher with him in the end - who wants that 'sensible' stuff - boring. I loved all the characters - they all had something different to offer. The main character Stella is refreshing and real. And you can't help but fall in love with Winston yourself. Why wouldn't she. :-) I love the way Terry disses herself in the book - that is very clever and funny. Most of all, I just love the romance of the situation. I come from a family of older women - younger men - so this story works for me. It's sexy, fun, interesting, real. You really do go through all these emotions and feelings - no matter WHAT age you are. And more power to you if you can still FEEL that giddy in your 40's. I feel tired and jaded right now. So, someone breaking out and being 'fresh' and stepping outside the box - is wonderful. Thanks so much for this book Terry. Loved it so much. Going to rush down and get the movie now. I highly recommend this book if you need a lift and your life has gotten way too samey and inside a box... Lovely book. Rating: - How Stella Got Her Groove BackI admit that I have only read the first two chapters. That was painful. I am not one to read rambling on of one's feelings on and on and on. I can see how the movie version might be better? Rating: - A tawdry romanceI admit it, I was disappointed in this book. The story wasn't a flowing page-turner for me. Just when I was about to get the groove of the writing style, I'd have to re-read a sentence to figure out the author's meaning. This happened every couple of pages or so for the first 200 pages. I understand why Ms. McMillan was writing without commas and using excessive run-ons, but for me, the technique was unsuccessful and really ruined what I hoped would be an easy, entertaining read. It's too bad that this was the first book I'd read by this author. I probably won't pick up anything written by her again. Rating: - What a letdownI was so looking forward to a novel about a Jamaican getaway, especially after having loved my own Jamaica trips. But Stella, who was so creative with home decor, was completely untouched by the beauty of the island and its interesting diverse people. This narcissistic so-and-so went on and on about stinky Rastas and ugly tourists and anyone who didn't happen to have a slim taut youthful physique. She indulged in too much reckless spending, and I felt sorry for poor Winston because I knew he'd rue the day he stepped off that plane in the U.S. and became Stella's midlife-crisis tool. He was much too good for her. Their values were so different, and she was just void of spirituality. Plus the run-on sentences drove so many of us readers crazy! Try reading McMillan's novel MAMA for convincingly 'real' characters that you'd like and would want to know. Rating: - An energizing readA bubbly writing style which suggests a lavish vacation. It stood out among her others in that it's smooth & spontaneous. |
