![]() - Useful study aid for the ABSITEPros: * Concise, well-written * Numerous pearls that pinpoint frequently tested material * Sufficient detail for ABSITE preparation * Organized, easy to read, high-yield * Lots of practice questions Cons: * Black and white images * Needs a key words section like the Michigan review This review is for the second edition textbook. This is a well-written surgery review book aimed at residents preparing for the American Board of Surgery In-Training Examination (ABSITE). This book covers all of teh topics residents need to be facile with for this exam. It goes into sufficient detail for most of the concepts and does a great job pointing out frequently tested material. Combined with their online course, this is a great review resource. Each chapter is introduced by a brief table of contents, which is good to highlight what is important. There are lots of little icons throughotu the book that tell you what to focus on. Clearly, this book is written by surgery residents and uses their input from prior exams. I found it to be very high-yield and felt much mroe comfortable on my exam. There are lots of diagrams, tables, and helpful hints on what to pay attention to. This makes studying much more efficient. The only downside is that this particular version on Amazon has pictures in black and white. There is apparently some way to get a full color version, which I saw from one of the residents in my program. If you can, get the full color version from their website. I have both Fisers book and this one, and I think that this book beats Fiser hands down. It is A LOT easier to read and doesn't have everything ina bullet format. It actually takes the time to explain things and that makes it a lot easier to retain the information. Fiser's book goes over a lot of miscellaneous things you don't need to know for the exam and doesnt do a good job emphasizing what you truly need to know to do well. It also seems like it is a little out of date. I recommend this book hands down. If you are studying for your borad examination in surgery, I would probably use this book to help determine what parts to pay attention to in Camerons. Rating: - Good ABSITE bookI was looking for a good review for the ABSITE after flunking the test last year. I used this book and did much better. Fast shipping from Amazon. Well-illustrated. Rating: - High yield ABSITE review bookThis is a great high yield review book for the ABSITE. The sections on thoracic, gastrointestinal, and HPB surgery are particularly well written. There are lots of good blurbs and gems throughout the book, and the authors have done a good job identifying the highly tested material. The topics are actually written out, which is different from Fiser's book and from the Michigan review, and makes for a much better read. Difficult topics are clearly explained. What I liked the most is that interspersed with the paragraphs are lots of good tables that break down what you have to know succinctly. #1 on my list - no spelling errors, unlike the Michigan book!! The contents is pretty thorough and the material is all relevant for the ABSITE. I used the first edition book to study for my junior ABSITE and scored in the high 80s. I used the second edition book to study for the senior ABSITE in 2008 and scored in the low 90s. My residency program is buying their review course for all of us this year. Summary: Highly recommended Rating: - Excellent, must have review material for higher scoresIt's an excellent, to-the-point, best medical review guide I have come across in a long time. It helped me raise my scores. It covers all the important topics one needs to know in the most efficient and effective manner. Well-written and well-illustrated. Rating: - Recommended - A must have!I am so glad that I bought this book. This book is very well organized and covers all the material I needed to know for the exam. The charts, graphs, highlighted important topics, along with the complete review made my life so much easier. Without any doubt I would highly recommend this book. If you want to make life a little easier then this is the book to have, as it is just a great asset! |
